2007 New York National Sale

		The 2007 National Brown Swiss Sale provided an exciting conclusion for the National Brown Swiss Convention held in Syracuse, NY July 10-14. The New York Yankee and baseball theme highlighted a tremendous line up of All Stars well appreciated by buyers from 18 states and 3 Canadian provinces. The final average of $7,208. on 61 head of live cattle exceeded prior National Sales by a considerable margin to establish a new Breed record. The previous high average goes way back to the Indiana 500 National Sale that averaged $5,470 in 1979. An outstanding offering of 22 embryos averaged $931.82. Heavily emphasized in sale promotion, the amazing group of 16 milking two year olds averaged $10,825. The three high sellers were over $20,000. with the top coming at mid-sale following presentations to the newly formed Brown Swiss Historical Society. Dublin Hills Treats is a treat to look at and commanded $28,000 from Ken Main and Peter Vail for their Elite Dairy, Copake, NY. This great Junior three year old show prospect sold milking over 100# and was the consignment of Dublin Hills Farm, Woodsboro, MD. Contending bidders included a group of Wisconsin promoters. An early sale feature, Ja Ka Hillary Hillbilly was lead off batter and added $24,000 to the pockets of her consignors, Jeff Woods and Don Rottinghaus. Hillbilly was the 2006 Unanimous All American Winter Yearling after winning Junior Champion at both Madison and Harrisburg. She is off and running this year winning Intermediate Champion at the Spring National Show on her first outing. A new name in Brown Swiss circles, Rob Donaldson, Abbottsford, British Columbia, Canada is Hillbilly’s proud new owner with Kevin Winter the contending bidder. Starmark Farm, Wooster, Ohio provided the third high seller at $20,500. This large and fancy Jet Pilot (*M) two year old prospect, Top Acres Pilot Sunglow ET, has 3 All American sisters and was taken by Ken Main and Peter Vail for their Elite Dairy, Copake, NY. The reserve bid on Sunglow was placed by Dave Wallace for Cedar Lane Farm, Oldwick, NJ. Topping the heifer line up on the high sellers list, Hoodstead Wondr Babydoll ET was taken by Elizabeth Byers, West Lafayette, IN for $13,800. Babydoll was Junior Champion at the Eastern Spring Show and promises great things for 2007. Sired by Top Acres C Wonderment ET she is from the highly reliable “N” family at Hoodstead and was consigned by Glad Ray Farm and Kathy Whitman, Thurmont, MD. Another fancy daughter of the 4 time All American Timberline Jetway Toni, was high selling open heifer at $13,500. Milk & Honey Toni Tessa ET is the only Ensign from Toni and was taken by Grant Groves, Billings, MO. Tessa was consigned by Cedar Lane Farm, Oldwick, NJ. The sale was managed by Modern Associates, St. Paris, OH with Wayne Sliker handling pedigrees from the box. Darrell Worden and Tim Eiting shared selling duties and were assisted in the ring and on the phones by Brian Garrison, Lee Barber, Dave Bush and Gordon DeMay. Connie Sliker, Cindy Worden and Deb Hoffman clerked the event. Krista Kasten, 2006 Youth Ambassador, and Jenna Smith, 2007 Youth Ambassador, presented the cattle and were assisted by Michelle Meisner and Leslie Flannery.
