Maryland National Brown Swiss Sale A Success |
![]() |
Enduring sweltering heat all week and a local flood the afternoon prior to the event, the sale crew had the outstanding lineup in great form for the Maryland National Swiss Sale. The much appreciated sale cattle viewing and cheese/ wine/seafood reception Friday afternoon was sponsored by Round Hill Acres and New Generation Genetics during a torrential down-pour. Spirits were not dampened as the large crowd got a good look at the high class lineup for Saturday’s offering. Top seller for the day was the 2010 Reserve All American Spring Calf, Cutting Edge Reba Ruth bringing $25,000. She has grown into a large spring yearling with quality to burn and is sired by Party Boy, the highest scored bull of the breed. A new name to Brown Swiss, Jay Roebuck from Turner, Maine, was the buyer. Contenders were showmen from Wisconsin and Connecticut. Elite Dairy, Copake, NY consigned this fine heifer that features a winning pedigree with 4 of her 6 dams All American winners. Second high for the day came half way thru the sale when Top Acres Premium Greda ET hit the ring and sold for $22,000 to Saltzman Cavern View Farms, Alvada, OH. Greda had been Supreme Jr. Champion of the 2011 Ohio Spring Show and sports a great pedigree as well with 12 “Ex” maternal sisters and the “5E94” Gredel as her dam. Top Acres, St. Paris, OH consigned this Premium daughter that attracted contending bidders from Kentucky and New York. Next in line and commanding an even $20,000 was first in the ring and first in the catalog, Round Hill Paterno Tiago. She had been Grand Champion at the strong New York Spring Show as well as last year’s Reserve All-American Fall Yearling. Promising to continue her winning ways she prompted bids from across the crowd with Team Tiago Syndicate and Emmy Covell as the buyers. Featuring the Whizzbang maternal line as well as a strong show history, Tiago was the consigned by Dave Lebowitz and Emmy Covell, Knoxville, MD. The Maryland National Sale was again managed by Modern Associates, St. Paris, OH with Wayne E. Sliker handling the pedigrees assisted by the very capable and entertaining auctioneers Darrell Worden and Chris Hill. A talented group of cow people worked the ring and phones including Brian Garrison, Dave Wallace, Lee Barber, and Cindy Warner. Presenting the cattle in the ring were Jennifer Hill, Lindsey Rucks, Michelle Funk, Jeremy McDonald and Jarrett Remsberg. Connie Sliker, Cindy Worden, and Donnette Fisher handled paper work and clerking. Brad Garst was a very active and helpful sale chairman assisted by Danielle Garst and an ambitious preparation crew including Dale Bendig, Brian Sparling, Jason Thomas, Pat Lundy, Evan Creek, Caleb Copasetic as well as Dennis Smith and several helpful Maryland Breeders all assisting to provide cow comfort under trying weather conditions. |
