Cattle sold to 14 states and 3 Canadian Provinces

Ken Main and Peter Vail established their position in the Registered Brown Swiss business in 2003 with the purchase of key members from special cow families as foundations for their Elite Dairy. During the following years they carefully selected more from the top shelf and continued the quest for quality with careful matings and embryo transfer. Great promoters of the breed, they exhibited their show cattle at the major shows with exceptional results including numerous All Americans.  From the very beginning, Ken and Peter had planned to conduct a sale showcasing the Elite breeding program by offering top notch opportunities at auction. The outstanding group of homebred heifers and young cows complimented the great lineup and cross section of  the herd impressing viewers and buyers from 20 states and Canada.

After an unusually cold week, The Elite Spring Selections presale activities took place   on a pleasant spring evening at the Columbia Co. Fairgrounds, Chatham, NY. The  cattle viewing, social hour and delicious barbecue were enjoyed by a large gathering from across the country as well as friends from Canada. The sale started promptly at 11 a.m. on May 1 with introductions including the owners and their families, the National Association Executive Secretary, Dave Wallace, and National president, Mike Moyers.

The sale was managed by Modern Associates, St. Paris, Ohio with Wayne Sliker making announcements and Darrell Worden handling selling duties. Fielding bids from the crowd and phones, the active ringmen included Dave Wallace, Brian Garrison, Lee Barber, and Gordon DeMay. Tim Coon and his crew handled preparation and cattle care thru the week and had the lineup in fine shape sale day.

Bill Taylor, Timmy Perotti, Carly Coon, Kelly Lee, Becky Osborn, Kyle Barton and Mikey Barton presented the cattle in the ring. Connie Sliker, Deb Hoffman, and Cindy Worden clerked and handled the many paperwork details.

Catalog number one was also first in the ring and first on the high seller list. Sunnyisle Legacy Thyme ET was Elite’s most recent Champion, winning honors at the recent New York Spring Show. She looks to continue as a major competitor for this year’s shows and sold with expressed contract interest from both Select Sires and New Generation Genetics. Bradner Farms, The Donaldson Family, Abbotsford, BC, Canada bid $38,000 to add Thyme to their impressive lineup. Contending on this All- American was a group of show boys from Ohio and Indiana.

Another promising three year old prospect, Cutting Edge Zeus Sparrow ET, was next in line at $27,000 going to Seth Davis, Scottsville, KY. She was a 2009 All American Nominee by Zeus and is from Hill-N-Dale Co Swallow ET “2E93”  and  All-American. Barb Lee was the contending bidder on Sparrow representing Ron Kelm, Markesan, WI.

The third high seller at $22,000  was last year’s Royal Winter Fair Grand Champion and Honorable Mention All American Aged Cow, Sunnyisle KB Tristan ET “2E93”. Tristan is headed back to Canada - only this time to Abbotsford, British Columbia to join the Bradner Farms team.
